The IPA is undeniably one of the most popular styles of beer in the craft drinking world. While it started as an extremely basic style of ale, the IPA has evolved eons - and returned with the modern brewer using science and imagination to produce endless varieties.
It’s interesting to note a bit about the history of our beloved IPA. Did you know that although it’s an Indian Pale Ale, it actually originated from Britain? Shocking, right? Well, this is because somewhere around the 1780’s, when fishermen and sea merchants were on a constant route between Britain and India, they found they were absolutely unable to keep or transport one essential piece of cargo - beer! After all, you can only do so much to swab a deck. This resulted in wild yeast causing illness and thus - no beer for the seamen. To combat this, a London brewer named Hodgson introduced a hoppy, high-alcohol beer that not only withstood the arduous trek to India, but improved upon its taste by the time it got there! And so the IPA was born and the rest is well...history!
We appreciate a good IPA for all that it is, and peruse the market for new, innovative styles all the time! While you’re out looking for your own IPA experience, don’t forget to make time for a few pints at Broomtail Craft Brewery. Their lineup has more IPA’s than you can drink in one day - well, guess that depends on a few things ;-). Try their delicious Enkindled Smoked IPA, Jus Sayin’ Imperial IPA, Acerbic Ecstasy IPA, Smashing Grapefruits Imperial IPA, and their newest addition, Marwari Imperial IPA. These are fine examples of the traditional character yet adventurous spirit that is an IPA, and you can’t really go wrong at Broomtail. IPA flight, anyone?
